"Austin (Texas) author Salvador SeBasco grew up thinking he was 'slow.' He attended school classes for special needs children, and his family encouraged him to develop talents that would suit his 'slow' nature. So SeBasco learned to tell stories. The Boy, The King and the Chihuahuais actually a story SeBasco wrote when he was just six years old: he slept in the bottom bunk because he couldn’t climb to the top, so he invented a boy who could. The sweet tale tells the story of a little boy who accepts the challenge of a king to climb to a tower higher than the trees, but when he gets there the king doesn’t want to give him the promised gift: a little Chihuahua. The simple story is best suited for preschool children, and is better read aloud in a setting in which kids can participate through clapping and other interaction. Indeed, the color-coded text makes it easy for children just learning to read to “act out” the tale (a special Teacher’s Edition includes additional hints). The book has a Spanish edition and an accompanying CD, both of which can be found at www.iJustRead.com. The book also is available as an eBook at www.seattlebook.com." Kim Pleticha, editor (Woman Journalist of the Year 2005 & 2006), PARENT: WISE AUSTIN
"It is a fantastic book for both children and adults, and it comes out in Spanish next month as El Niño, El Rey, y La Chihuahua!" Karla Saldaña, Host of the Spanish television show BENDICION MUSICAL.
"The Boy, The King, and The Chihuahua is the only book my 4 month old Grandson, Benjamin, will stop crying and pay attention each time I read it to him and he smiles every single time. I know it's the rhyme and rhythm in the words of The Boy, The King, and The Chihuahua. With this story book, I can see how Salvador SeBasco could easily be bigger than Doctor Seuss one day!" David Yeakley on The Morning Show.
"A Real Jewel!" Edwina Meitzen, Dayton Tribune, Oregon
"Brilliant! I was overjoyed, and so ecstatic, that my inner child took a step!"
"An awesome children's book and my top pick for Which Children's Book Do I Buy For This Kid for Christmas? This one: The Boy, The King, and The Chihuahua. This is the kind of children's book that adults secretly covet and hoard to themselves. The kind of book you hope to read night after night to your kid. No lie. If you care a whit about writing and creativity and dreams, then Salvador SeBasco's book will still exceed your expectations.
I spent part of this afternoon talking with the author of The Boy, the King, and the Chihuahua, Salvador SeBasco. During that time, he read part of this delightful book to me. Had I not been in public and surrounded by others, I would have cried. Why? It inspires the imagination of children! A delightful, heartwarming and inspiring gift I wholeheartedly recommend. I hope you have some special children in your life you can purchase this book for, because it will provide the inspirational flames for their creative genius. A rare gift indeed ...!"
